Welcome to the new office of Dr. Katz located in Port Jefferson Plaza in Port Jefferson Station, NY on Route 112 in the shopping center across the street from I- Hop.

Dr. Katz has practiced optometry for over 27 years. For the past 3 years , his practice was located in South Setauket. The prior 10 years he was located in Middle island, NY. He is proud to have over 20,000 active patients on file and his new office in Port Jefferson Station opened on June 22 2009.

There are many exciting new aspects to this new office, located in Exam Suite B in the Vision World. We now accept MOST union , vision plans and insurance plans. If you have a vision plan and would like to see Dr Katz, you should mention that fact when you make an appointment by calling 631-476-4707, otherwise you will be assigned to Exam Suite A which has another optometrist.

Our new facility is state of the art, functional, private and truely a lovely office. When you enter our office you will find an air conditioned , roomy and comfortable waiting room with a television , toys for the kids , magazines to read etc.

You will be greeted by our new Optometric Technician, April. She will take you to our photgraphy area where you will have a retinal photo taken, without the need for dilation , which is uncomfortable and leads to poor exam results. Then you will tested on a Huvitz Auto Refractometer and Anterior Segment Microscope, which sends 198 data fields ( measurements ) into the extended global network. This makes the data and photos available for Dr. Katz when he performs his exam. You will also be checked for glaucoma with  a Reichert portable tonometer , the mildest and most accurate test availabe for this purpose.

When you then see Dr Katz, you will be seated behind an exam console which contains all the monitors and devices to perform an extremely accurate exam using a Huvitz Motorized Phoropter, also part of the Extended Global Network. Your records and photos will then be reviewed and Dr Katz will perform an in depth medical examination of your eyes and an extremely accurate refraction ( the measurement for your prescription for eye glasses or contact lenses). All tests are done in room light using LCD charts , you read the chart and we make you see. No more "which is clearer one or two", no guestimating, no confusion, just a pleasant experience from start to end.

As always you will find our crew to be friendly, proficient and eager to please as we love what we do.

In addition, we now have a pediatric exam area in which we can examine children as young as 6 months , and the area is loaded with toys so it can also keep your kiddies busy while you are being examined in a safe secure environment.

We are also now able to examine wheelchair bound patients , because we have a portable version of every device we use. As always, we specialize in treating those with special needs , and have the expertise and even more equipment for that purpose.

We also offer ONE HOUR SERVICE on eyeglasses when possible , and offer frames and lenses from budget to designer frames such as Versace, Fendi, D and G etc at discount prices. We have two licensed opticians to serve you at the retail end, both extremely experienced, personable , honest and extremely talented.

We sell contact lenses at internet prices, so you can buy your lenses without shipping costs with a turn around time of usually a few days.

Our Fees have not changed . You receive the exam just described for just 39.00 . For an additional 30.00 you can convert your exam to a contact lens exam, which includes any lens type , trials as needed, instruction as needed and one year of follow up and a starter kit. These fees are the lowest in the entire area, and unheard of for this thorough and unrushed examination.How do we do it?, We do it by employing the latest in technology , the official name for our networks is an EMcR, an electronically controlled medical record system. This allows us to work extremely efficiently, saving time and allowing us to see more patients without rushing and assuring very accurate results.

The new physical layout of the office also promotes efficiency, as you work your way through our office, the areas flow into each other assuring privacy and having the patient follow the flow , starting and ending at the reception desk where you receive your precription.

This new facility is truely state of the art , and combined with our experienced dedicated and expert staff will result in the best eye exam and experience you have ever had.
